Pikito, pigeon portrait painting. This beautiful pigeon has striking markings in bright white and muted gray blue-greens, which stands out against a royal red background contained in an ornate frame.
In the city of La Ceiba, Honduras, Pikito was found in the streets, just a few weeks old and very sick with pox. With limited vet assistance available, Carol took it upon herself to save Pikito no matter what, and after several months, she had nursed him back to health. He became part of the family, traveling to the beach, and spending time in his own special house. Though it was very uncommon to have a pigeon as a pet in Honduras, Pikito inspired people to see these birds in a different light, and his story was published in a nationwide newspaper. Pikito became so popular that he was named the official pet mascot of the first and only animal protection organization in the city. Thanks to him - and Carol - many more people have compassion for these wonderful birds.
