Ashley Dietrich, the artist behind Canvas Dove

I hold BFAs in Studio Art and Art History, and a minor in Philosophy. I did graduate studies in Biocultural Anthropology and Archaeology before choosing art as a full-time career.  I am inspired by pattern, natural textures, and a view of the woods from my studio.  I have a lifelong obsession with color theory.  My current projects (Summer/Fall 2016) explore anthropomorphism and the concept of reverence.

I also work as a volunteer wild bird rehabilitator, specializing in doves and pigeons. Birds are each unique individuals with their own personalities, and I am honored to be part of so many little lives. Capturing their gestures and the complexity of feathers is a fulfilling technical challenge, but I especially enjoy creating portraits.  Painting allows me to work with wild birds as well as spend time with my own little flock. I share my studio with my doves Cecily, George, and Evangeline.
